Do you want to take a family vacation where you’ll feel like you’ve traveled to another part of the world? Consider traveling to one of a few destinations that feel like faraway locales, but don’t take too long to travel to.
Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard
One of my favorites is the islands of Massachusetts. Although both Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are still within the 508 area code, they feel like a remote destination. Just one ferry ride (about an hour) is required, and you’ll immediately feel relaxed and rested as soon as you hit the islands. Travel in September for some great deals and some residual warm weather.
Quebec City and Montreal
If you don’t mind leaving the country, Quebec City and Montreal aren’t too far of a drive from the US/Canadian border. Both have a distinctly European feel to them – not surprising since French is the prevalent language in both cities. Don’t forget that US residents are now required to carry a passport (or US Passport Card if traveling by car), when visiting Canada and Mexico.
Victoria Island
Visiting Victoria Island, in British Columbia, Canada, is just like taking a step into jolly old England. But, if you live on the West Coast, it’s a much shorter trip! You can even see double-decker buses and horse-drawn carriages!
Epcot – Walt Disney World Florida
Of course, an afternoon visiting the World Showcase in Epcot at Walt Disney World Florida is just the way to see many different cultures and countries without traveling very far at all.
