Father’s Day in our family usually involves a barbecue, where we often indulge in grilling up a variety of high quality steaks and meats. This year, instead of taking a trip to our favorite local butchery, we celebrated our Father’s Day BBQ tradition a little early and tested out some of Omaha Steaks latest offerings for the gas grill.
My family received some highlights from the Fire Up The Grill Package from Omaha Steaks. Our package included 2 (6 oz.) Filet Mignons, 2 (6 oz.) Top Sirloins, 4 (4 oz. approx.) Boneless Chicken Breasts, 4 (4 oz.) Omaha Steaks Burgers, 4 (4 oz.) Boneless Pork Chops and 4 (5.75 oz.) Stuffed Baked Potatoes. The items were clearly labeled and boxed neatly inside a styrofoam cooler. Dry ice inside the cooler allowed the food to remain frozen solid upon reaching our house. Inside each box the meats were sealed and packaged individually.
I usually defrost our meats by placing them in the refrigerator. However, upon reading the directions, we learned a great defrosting tip by placing the meat in a bowl of cold water. Within an hour and a half, our meats were defrosted and ready for the grill.
The meats did not take a long time to cook, and after sampling the meats I found them all to be very tender. We did have one hamburger that actually fell apart the moment my father placed it on the grill, but thankfully we have a toddler in the house who didn’t seem to mind a few broken pieces!
One difference between Omaha Steaks and my local butcher was that the portion sizes and thicknesses of the meats from Omaha Steaks were much smaller. So in the end, I had to cook more pieces of meat than was typical to satisfy a crowd’s appetite. However, despite this, everyone said they didn’t feel overstuffed, they liked the taste of the meat and they honestly felt it might be a great way to exercise better portion control. Personally, I really like the concept of the meats being packaged individually for two other reasons. I am the person responsible for re-packaging our meats before freezing them, so not only would this save me a lot of time but the individual packaging most likely helps to keep the freshness of the meat by reducing freezer burn.
Overall, my family really enjoyed our Omaha Steaks experience. So even if you haven’t decided on grilling on Father’s Day yet, Omaha Steaks might be a great way to add something different to your family barbecue grill this summer. Since they sell a wide variety of red meats, chicken, pork and even fish, an Omaha Steaks gift card might be my new solution for those hard to buy for friends and family members!
My family received some meats from the Thrill The Grill package free from Omaha Steaks to facilitate this review. The opinions are my own.
